Lotus Notes 8.5.1 and DAOS enhancements - the post I forgot

It is common knowledge that some basic DAOS functionality has been added to the 8.5.1 client. By that I mean the client will not send a "known attachment" to the DAOS enabled mail server in a forward or reply with attachments action. If you think about this it is pretty obvious and can lead less bandwidth use. This is also the case when the user is using a local replica.

Well......kind of......

Except that both ends of the replication need to be ODS 51 (and implicitly running version 8.5.1).

By that I mean the server has to be at ODS 51, and it usually is otherwise "no DAOS for you". However, the local replica also needs to be at ODS 51. That is the bit that is missing on most local replicas. They are not usually ODS 51. So, at least for Lotus Notes 8.5.1, if you need this functionality make sure to add

CREATE_R85_DATABASES=1

to a users local notes.ini file (you can use a policy to do this), then you have to compact the local replica with a copy style compact. That's a bit more tricky and I'll leave that to you, avid reader to figure this out. While you are doing this you may as well add in a -v -n  options as well to add design and document compression too.
