2010 is here, LS10 is over and DAOS keeps on rocking. Yes another one

This DAOS implementation was a tad different. As this client is on an iSeries the recommended DAOS attachment size is 1MB. I figured this would hurt the overall percentage so to wring out even more space savings we turned on "Single Copy Template" (SCT) for mail files as well. It's been a while since we'd done a SCT implementation. All I can say is wow. If you have any empty or almost empty mail files on your servers, SCT will whittle them down to 1.8 MB or so.

So, some stats....

Pre DAOS
Mail files : 110GB
Archives : 50GB
Total : 160GB

As I said we enabled SCT on the mail templates and let the design task run. After that we ran:
load compact -c -i -v -n -ZU -daos on

On both mail and archives. Remember DAOS minimum size is 1MB as this is an iSeries.

Post DAOS
Mail files : 47.5GB
Archives : 21.2GB
DAOS 18.7GB
Total 87.3GB

Overall savings of approx 45%, even with a 1MB limit on DAOS.
