Lotus Traveler likes to hijack your SMTP and HTTP settings
If you install Lotus Traveler on a Domino server that is also an SMTP server, make sure you have set up a Internet Site document for SMTP first. Otherwise SMTP will fail once you reboot and Traveler starts up.
If it is also a Domino HTTP server, make sure to reconfigure your sites to use Internet Sites before you install Traveler.
Before you actually install Traveler, reconfig your SMTP and HTTP first so you can fix any errors. Only then, when SMTP and HTTP is working correctly via Internet Sites should you try to install Lotus Traveler.

I'm about to install Traveler 8.5.1 on an SMTP server - no internet site documents on it. But I don't think they are needed in this release unless it's something specific to the SMTP protocol.
